Winging it ....

Winging it ....

Monday 9th April 2018

The one time I tried to cook 'fried' chicken it turned out pretty blooming terrible even though I did the whole buttermilk chicken thing and everything I learned in the USA. So I have nothing but respect for chefs who can turn the humble bird into something spectacular....

One such place is Wings Diner the latest pop up to pop up in Small Bar, King Street. I have to admit that whilst I have sampled pretty much every burger place and probably burgers in Bristol I'm pretty consistently seen at Burger Theory with my standard Hairy Beast and a Tiny rebel to accompany it; so its only on the most steadfast recommendation that I ventured to Wings.

Eating alone, because Mrs EWTB is away on a work thing, I can only talk about the Korean Fried Chicken Burger but thats worthy of a blog all on its own. Its basically perfectly crispy fried chicken thigh with lush sweet/sour/sharp Korean sauce. The fries were crispy and were a great accompaniment with the Srirachamayonaisse and the sharp pickled slaw.

The picture doesn't do it justice.

Beer was by Left Handed Giant and perfect with the chicken; I'd wax lyrical about the beer but I didn't even register the name as I'm trying only to only be a cider, coffee, gelato bore and to add beer to that list might finish some people off. Suffice to say it was light, refreshing and citrussy but that's as far as my tasting notes will allow.

I am still a committed Burger Theorist but take it from me; that commitment may have weakened after this visit....
